Gems of Homeopathy - Workshop II - A Report

Seminar Topic : 'SEIGAL METHOD' by Dr. Sanjay Sehgal and Dr. Yogesh Sehgal
Date : 13th , 14th and 15th March 2009

Seigal Method workshop organized by Medicure Foundation, received an overwhelming response from practicing Homeopaths and students from all over India. For many who had attended previous seminars this was one of the best experience they have had. The seminar was a perfect blend of the "homeopathic art and science".

The first day was more of philosophy, wherein Dr. Seghal explained the importance of the mind. He also showed cases where he had included some physical symptoms!! The confusion of mind versus the physicals was solved.

Various versions and interpretations of the rubric "Light desire for" were explained and hence the so called "acute, short acting remedy" Belladonna was beautifully taught transforming it into a polycrest remedy. It was a whole new insight on this wonderful, the new known "polycrest" Belladonna. Dr. Sehgal did his best to keep the atmosphere "light." He carried all the audience beautifully with him, sensing the pulse and learning curve of the audience he gradually build the tempo and took every one on a fascinating journey of learning the various aspects of Seigal Method.

The Sehgal brothers also spoke about the most common and lesser known remedies (that a beginner would hardly use in his/her initial days of practice). One of the lesser known remedies "Cocculus Indicus" was taught very well. The mind section of this remedy was never understood and never explored by anyone; but this was most amazingly explained in this seminar. Participants beautifully understood the feeling, the reaction and the dullness of this remedy.

The second day was much awaited after the excellent teachings by the speakers on the first day. Dr. Sanjay spoke about the primary and the secondary reaction of a remedy; how does the remedy act and what is the action to be expected after giving the remedy.

The audience was completely thrilled and astonished with the efficacy of prescribing done purely on the present mental states in treatment of various diseases. The speakers clarified many questions hitherto unresolved. The depth, breadth and volume of information imparted was extraordinary.

The knowledge shared added an entirely new dimension to the field of Homeopathy. The art of case taking according to Seigal Method was also taught during these sessions, the speakers showed cases of individuals whom they were treating for various complaints on and off but the approach and remedy not being changed and yet giving excellent results all these years.

The speakers taught many remedies and took the participants on a wonderful journey exploring and learning their evolution. One of the remedies explained with help of cases was Stram and its differentiation from Opium. The remedy Stram was explained by Dr. Sanjay Sehgal in a very hilarious manner.

Dr. Yogesh also threw light upon a least known, understood, and used rubric "Noise inclination to make" and here he compared four remedies, Belladonna, Merc, Verat, and Opium.

And then followed the third and the final day of the seminar. The session began at 8.45 a.m. sharp. Dr. Yogesh Sehgal was clear, passionate, well articulated, and honest. He took the pains to come early to solve the delegates queries. All doubts were patiently answered thus giving insights into the entry points of some remedies. This was a truly enlightening session and was followed by short video cases and again study of some rubrics.

The teachers were very helpful, approachable, accessible, and down to earth. All in all the seminar was an exhilarating learning experience. It was refreshing to be in the presence of the learned spirits.

The participants found the seminar interesting, understandable (thank goodness) and practical. They left feeling so transformed and inspired were actually chanting to themselves, “I can do it!”

'Operation Cure' by ICR Teachers -A Report

Seminar Topic : 'Operation Cure' by ICR Teachers
Date : 9th , 10th and 11th January 2009

FRIDAY – 9/01/09

Dr. Manoj Patel was the 1st speaker of the day and he charged up the audience with his exemplary audience interaction and started off the seminar with a bang. He was full of energy and deep rooted philosophy as he proceeded to demonstrate the Art of Case receiving. This was further enhanced by the live enacting of a case by Dr. Pooja where interactive, subjective discussions ensured that the crowd was alert, laughing as well as doing some deep retrospective thinking all throughout the seminar. One of the best & most remembered Speakers of the event.

Dr. Manoj Patel set the pace with an unprecedented CASE ENACTION – his assistant Dr. Pooja enacted a case of an arrogant man who had very reluctantly given his case in the OPD and as the Physician “received” the case rather than taking it, the underlying timidity & insecurity were made visible to the Homoeopaths sitting there. He elaborated and consciously ensured that each & every Homoeopath sitting in the auditorium was UNPREJUDICED and was more adept at receiving a case without mixing personal emotions.

Dr. Chandrashekar Goda spoke in depth on the use of Homoeopathy in the tribal area and elaborated on the word Care and Cure. He touched many hear strings in the process and presented a very heartwarming seminar.

Dr. C. Goda demonstrated with ample pictures and videos the efficacy of Homoeopathy in tribal regions. His presentation clearly made it evident that lack of any formal education and language is not a barrier for Homoeopathy and “Care” is a universal phenomenon. Where you Care, you can Cure.

Dr. Navin Pawaskar managed to keep the audience at the edge of their seats as he described case after case of use of Homoeopathy effectively & miraculously in ICU, Acute poisoning and other Acute cases with stupendous results.

Dr. Navin Pawaskar showed many cases of acute management with Homoeopathy -
(1) 3rd stage dehydration with Cholera – patient recovered in 36 hours.
(2) Dhatura poisoning – patient recovered in 8 hours.
(3) Lorazepam poisoning; suicide attempt – patient recovered within 12 hours.
(4) 3rd degree burns with deformities, ulcerations and destroyed distal phalanges - re-    growth of all the phalanges with reappearance of the nail.

SATURDAY – 10/01/09

Dr. Anand Kapse began the day with explanation of the Boger- Boenninghausen approach. He gave very deep in-depth views about the life & works of both these stalwarts. He also explained in detail the obvious superiority of the BBCR and BTP as repertories in daily use. This was well appreciated by the practitioners and students both.

Dr. Kapse solved cases with use of both the above mentioned Repertories. Rubrics used were common but employed through the Grand Generalization method, with stress on Concomitants - Mental & Physical both as well as due importance given to Time Modalities. According to Dr. Boger’s approach LSMC classification and case solving demonstrations.

Dr. Kumar Dhawale was eagerly awaited for by the audience and the wait was not futile as he did not disappoint one bit and thoroughly charmed the audience with his deep philosophy and cases that were astounding to say the least. Truly the mark of a stalwart cannot be denied.

Dr. Dhawale showed cases of his colleagues here the rubrics where used from the Kent’s repertory and clear cut pictures of the state of the patients mind was reflected in them. Thus applying the Kentian approach the audience could see the importance given to the Mental symptoms, their use, importance and various degrees of employment. It was important to note the simple but lucid methodology that he followed effectively.

SUNDAY – 11/01/09

Dr. Bipin Jain began the day’s proceedings with a bang as he aggressively demonstrated the importance and use of clinical knowledge even for Homoeopaths in acute cases & thus ensuring that every single practitioner from the audience would definitely make a more conscious effort of garnering more clinical knowledge in the future. He also supported his lecture and thoughts with some equally amazing cases.

Dr. Prakash Tamboli spoke on the need to Standardize the Methodology for Homoeopathic Clinical Research. His view of many contemporary diseases was worth noting.

Dr. Sunil Bhalinge provided the well suited conclusion to not just the day’s events but also the entire 3 day workshop. Having attended every single day himself, he was quick to grasp the pulse of the audience. He interacted with every segment of the audience and even made hypothetical physicians out of us. He ensured that we questioned ourselves deep down inside for the right answers while he merely guided us through it. An eye opener to say the least.

Dr. Bhalinge showed the case that he had stumbled upon during the screening process followed by them and it was interesting to hear the details written by the patient in the History form by himself. The frank attitude and the past history, nature of the patient were disturbing for the audience and brought forth dilemmas faced by an actual practitioner. He very meticulously explained each & every step and aspect of the case.

CONCLUSION

The seminar was a series of events and the entire concept of a “workshop” was maintained from start to finish. It started with Case receiving, then to make us unprejudiced whilst explaining the language of Care & Cure. Then the Homoeopaths were taught about the different approaches one could take to solving a case, the steps to be followed, the symptoms to be considered and the mistakes to be avoided. All this was supported by accurate clinical knowledge, physical examination findings and laboratory investigations. Evidence based Homoeopathy was also brought forward. It was also ensured that the Homoeopaths learn the art of Acute prescribing with the confidence imbibed in them and the technique in which the mind should function for an acute prescription.
